About the event

Opening May 2, 2024, during Santa Barbara's 1st Thursday Artwalk, the 100th Birthday Tribute to James Galanos exhibition offers an intimate look at Galanos' early contributions to high fashion.

See identical dresses in the MET Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art’s permanent collection. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to view original photographs, press photos, dresses, counterbooks, and patterns dating back to 1956, offering a rare glimpse into the history of American high fashion. In addition to these historical pieces, we are thrilled to present four meticulously reconstructed costumes, crafted right here in Santa Barbara. These pieces not only pay homage to Galanos’s timeless designs but also highlight local talent and craftsmanship. See dresses on Marilyn Monroe and photos of the four inaugural gowns worn by Nancy Reagan.  As part of our commitment to innovation in fashion, the event will introduce new fashion technology currently being taught at renowned institutions such as Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiasts and professionals alike to explore the future of fashion design and technology. Come during 1st Thursday Artwalk, 5-8 pm, at the gorgeous Tower event space at Workzones, Paseo Nuevo Mall. Walk-ins welcome! All are invited to this inclusive event. Complimentary Wine! Free 75-minute parking at Paseo Nuevo Mall. Workzones is across from the theater and Bruxie’s. 351 Paseo Nuevo, 2nd fl
